Free Learning by Age: Pick Your Child’s Year

Grades are a school idea. Ages are how parents think. These pages translate between the two: choose an age and you get the level or levels that fit it, what changes at that stage, and a week that is realistic rather than aspirational.

Every lesson behind these pages is free, carries no advertising, and opens without an account. Children of the same age often sit in two different levels, and frequently in different levels for different subjects, so nothing here is locked.

Why age and grade do not line up

A seven year old might be in Grade 2 in one country and Grade 3 in another, and a child who reads early is often a year ahead in English while sitting exactly where they should in maths. Treating a level as a fixed label for a child causes more trouble than it saves.

The practical test takes about five minutes. Open a lesson one level above where you think your child sits and watch. More than roughly a third wrong means drop back for that subject. Almost nothing wrong means move up. Do it per subject, not per child.
