Computers that learn, think, and help!
Imagine a computer that can learn from examples — just like you learn to read by practising! Artificial Intelligence, or AI, means teaching computers to be smart helpers. AI can answer questions, recognise faces, play games, and so much more.
🤖 How AI learns from examples
AI looks at lots of examples, then knows a cat when it sees a new one.

1950 — Can machines think?
A very clever man named Alan Turing asked a big question: can machines think? This one question started the whole idea of AI.
- 🏷️
1956 — AI gets its name
A group of scientists met together and gave this big idea a name: Artificial Intelligence. It was officially born!
- 💬
1966 — ELIZA — the first chatbot
A computer programme called ELIZA could hold a simple typed conversation with a person. It was one of the very first chatbots ever made!
- ♟️
1997 — Computer beats chess champion
A computer called Deep Blue played chess against the best chess player in the world — and won! People were amazed that a machine could beat a human champion.

2012 — Computers learn to see pictures
Computers got really good at recognising what is in a photo — like cats, dogs, or faces. This clever trick is called deep learning.

2017 — Transformers make AI smarter
Scientists discovered a clever new idea called transformers, which made AI much better at understanding and writing language. This changed everything!

2022 — ChatGPT — AI for everyone
ChatGPT launched and let everyone in the world chat with an AI for the very first time. Millions of people tried it on the very first day!

Today — AI makes pictures and videos
Now AI can make amazing pictures and videos just from your words! You type what you want to see, and AI draws it for you.

What is AI?
What does Artificial Intelligence actually mean?
Tap to find out 🔄What is AI?
AI means teaching a computer to be smart by showing it lots and lots of examples. Just like you learn to count by practising, the computer learns by looking at millions of examples. Then it can help us answer questions, draw pictures, and much more!
💡 Did you know? The word 'Artificial' means 'made by people, not nature' — so AI is smartness made by people!

Where can I find AI in real life?
Tap to find out 🔄AI is all around us
AI is hiding everywhere! When you ask Siri or Google a question, that is AI. When YouTube shows you a video you might like, that is AI too. Even the characters in your favourite video games use AI to move around!
💡 Did you know? There are more AI assistants in the world than there are people — billions of them!
✨ Ask the AI TutorRobots and AI
Is every robot an AI?
Tap to find out 🔄Robots and AI
No! A robot is a machine that can move and do things with its body. But most simple robots just follow exact instructions — they cannot think or learn. AI is the clever, thinking part that some robots have, but not all of them do.
💡 Did you know? A robot vacuum cleaner uses AI to figure out where the walls are so it doesn't keep bumping into them!
✨ Ask the AI TutorAI learns by practising
How does AI get smarter?
Tap to find out 🔄AI learns by practising
AI gets smarter the same way you do — by practising lots and lots! If you show an AI a million pictures of cats, it learns what a cat looks like. Every time it gets an answer wrong, it adjusts and tries to do better next time.
💡 Did you know? Some AIs have practised on more examples than a person could read in a thousand lifetimes!
✨ Ask the AI TutorAI can make mistakes
Can AI ever get things wrong?
Tap to find out 🔄AI can make mistakes
Yes! AI is a very helpful tool, but it is not perfect. It can sometimes give a wrong answer and sound very sure about it! That is why it is always good to check important facts with a grown-up, a book, or your teacher.
💡 Did you know? Even the smartest AI in the world sometimes thinks a dog is a muffin because they can look the same in a photo!
