Grade 2 Courses: Fluency, Tables and Reading for Meaning
Grade 2 is a fluency year. The skills are mostly familiar, and what changes is speed and confidence, which only come from repeated practice with feedback.
The courses put those skills in a deliberate order, so times tables come before division and sentence structure comes before tenses.

Why fluency is the goal here
- A child who has to work out six times four every time has no attention left for the word problem it sits inside. Recall frees up thinking.
- Reading for meaning is a separate skill from reading accurately. The comprehension lessons ask about the passage, not about the words.
- Time and money are the first maths a child meets that is not base ten, and they are usually the first real stumble of the year.
Questions parents ask
- How many questions is a lesson?
- Eight at this level, drawn from a larger pool so no two attempts are identical.
- What counts as mastered?
- Ninety percent or better on first-try answers, at Challenger level or above. Mastery sticks once earned.
- Can my child practise the same lesson again?
- Yes, as often as they like. The best attempt is the one that counts.
